The artist makes the sound information into “threads,” and through her mechanical installation the emotional memory is re-read and processed again. She uses this to think about the phenomenon of rumination in psychology, and the loss of control brought about by compulsively staying rational.

In this project, Jiaqing transformed the emotional memories of her life into visualized sound waveforms. The sound of the installation and the sound of the video are all processed out of these.

People often feel that our endless rumination stems from our own control; that we actively choose to ruminate over the past, and that we ourselves wish to rewind our memories and emotions over and over.

This is a kind of self-deception, a human process that can be voluntary or involuntary
